One of the nice things about blogging is sometimes having the opportunity to take part in events that you may not have known about without an online presence. It’s a benefit of this hobby that I’m always grateful for, especially when I can take my camera along for some photos!
Recently Dublin foodie haven, Fallon & Byrne, invited a host of bloggers, journalists and social media lovers to join them for an after-work hour of cocktails and nibbles in their city centre restaurant. It was a fun evening with welcoming hosts, friendly staff and of course lots of fellow bloggers and tweeters. Their fab bar staff whipped me up some amazing virgin cocktails (Mojito and Pappy Honeysuckle, they were luscious) and served us with plates of bite sized deliciousness!
Due to my excitement, and nervousness, my photos were less than I had hoped for, and certainly not enough to do Fallon & Byrne justice, but I hope you’ll get an idea from the few I’ve put together above! These things always make me nervous; why is it so easy to chat to people online, but petrifying to talk face to face?!
Well, the photos may not be very good, but you can take my word for it that the surroundings were ambient and the drinks were divine! I’ll definitely be heading back there for some more summery fun :) Thanks so much to Fallon & Byrne’s Jennifer for putting together a wonderful evening for us – say hello to her on Twitter when you have a chance!

In other news, one of my photos from Bloom in the Park was published in the latest issue of Irish magazine Image Interiors and Living. Check it out on page 92 if you’re picking up a copy!

I’m in the process of putting together a Blogging Beautifully post about using images on your blog. I get a fair amount of questions about different aspects of using photos, so I’m writing an advice post that I hope will help some bloggers out! If you have any questions related to using images just leave them in the comments below or email to hello@cityofblackbirds.com.
Enjoy your weekend!

Thanks so much for visiting Lauren, I’m very glad you like the blog x
It is definitely a benefit of being a blogger to meet lovely new people. I’ve been to a few small events recently and I promise you it gets easier to chat to people.
Glad to hear that Michelle!
I surely feel your pain about meeting people in real life. I tend to feel shy and it’s easy to hide behind the camera, and my fellow Finns usually being rather intimidated by the camera as well, it is just too easy to live in a separate world from the others… But I’d love to join in with something like this and learn to fight it a little. I also feel like I’d need to learn more about how to address people, interact as a photographer and as a person, too. Not many events like these go on around here, well, none that I’d know of, but I am sure that is just a matter of time…
I liked your photos, the lightness and colours do make it feel delicious indeed :)
Thanks for sharing Piia, I know how tough it is to be social when you’re shy. I find what helps is thinking about the fact that most people feel just as uncomfortable at things like these and they’re only too happy to have a conversation with you, it just takes a little effort. I’m not that great at it to be honest, but I try! I hope it gets easier for you x
