Summer announces herself in great swathes of white blossom growing along the hedgerows and in the dappled light beneath full-leafed trees.  Although named after royalty, some consider it a weed; but I love to see the clusters of miniature flowers begin to open.  It means that warmer weather and sunlight are near, nature is almost in full bloom and our Irish countryside will turn a lush green once more.  Even in deepest winter these plants will still be beautiful, when their fragile skeletons are laid bare, glittering with frost and wound in spider webs.

15 Sweet Notes on Queen Anne’s Lace ~

  1. Emily says:

  2. MissLilly says:

awww it’s gorgeous!!! Love the light in the photos

  3. Magali says:

Oh such gorgeous light & flowers. Sometimes weed – flowers that grow freely are the prettiest!

  4. Mary says:

This is my favorite Summer ‘weed’. Yes almost too pretty to be categorized that way – and is I believe of the carrot family. I keep scissors in the car and sometimes stop on a safe road to quickly cut a bunch to bring home. Usually put them in a big white ironstone pitcher for the front porch – love them out there. Haven’t found any this Summer – perhaps the 100+ degrees day after day have stymied their growth. Thinking now of taking a run later today to hunt for some in the hedgerows – we had a massive storm (lost our power through the night ) last evening and lots of much-needed rain, perhaps it will have nudged them to bloom!

Beautiful images dear – making my morning coffee so enjoyable.

    Hugs – Mary

Thanks Mary, I hope you found some after the storm! It’s hard to imagine the heat you’re having over there, we’ve been having such an unusually cold and wet summer here. I hope it breaks soon for you, it can’t be pleasant having so much heat constantly xx

  5. Lisa-Marie says:

Beautiful! My mum used to fill jugs with bunches of Queen Anne’s Lace. Clearly it’s a practice I should take up too!

  6. Lynne says:

Beautiful photos! PS Hope you managed to see bits of the opening ceremony somehow. I don’t have a tv either, but I invited myself to a friend’s house + watched it there alone while he went out! I still had a great time! Gymnastics was amazing, so pleased I made the effort to get some tickets.

    • Eadaoin says:

I caught some of it online afterwards Lynne, it looked amazing and I’m sorry I missed the whole thing! For the next Olympics I’ll have to make sure I have the whole TV thing sorted out beforehand, can’t have another disaster like this again!

  7. Amy says:

I just love this flower! Especially in bouquets!
    Gorgeous photos!

  8. Kate I says:

Oh, I love Queen Anne’s Lace…it takes me back to my childhood and laying on my back in the fields, surrounded by it, gazing at the sky and dreaming little girl dreams. These are beautiful photographs!
