Inspiration Secrets ~ Introduction
i’m delighted to announce that tomorrow will see the start of a new guest post series here on city of blackbirds! some wonderful bloggers have agreed to take part in an ‘inspiration secrets’ series and write posts on the topics of inspiration, creativity and motivation. i’m so excited for it to begin and i very much hope that you will all enjoy it.
the aim of the series is to give insight into what inspires and motivates creativity in the artistic and prolific folks scattered across the blogosphere. i hope that what they have to share will in turn infuse the spirit of creativity in those of us reading their words, particularly if we are having a hard time with an artistic block or lack of passion.
the idea for these guest posts came from mulling over problems i’ve had in the past. although right now i feel like creativity bubbles out of me in myriad ways it wasn’t always like that, i had to work hard to reach this place. not long ago i was battling with a numbing depression and an anxiety & panic disorder that left me struggling just to get through the day, never mind spending time on creative pursuits.
on my journey through that difficult time i learned quite a lot about the importance of creativity in our daily lives and making real efforts to make ourselves happy. at this stage i feel that i would like to share some of what i have learned and use this blog to help encourage inspiration, hope and celebration in others who may find themselves in a similar situation and in those who are struggling with their own creative blocks.
so for the next while i hope you will enjoy the things i want to share. i intend to build up a library of tutorials, downloads and templates over time, providing i can learn the skills to set this in action (i’m working on it!). i think that starting with some guest posts written by bloggers that i admire is a wonderful way to begin – reading what motivates people we are inspired by can be insightful and helpful towards figuring out how to get our own creative juices flowing.
so keep your eyes peeled for the first post in the ‘inspiration secrets’ guests series tomorrow evening!!

Reader Feature ~ Meg’s Zombie Cupcakes
meg sent me some spooky looking photos of these zombie cupcakes she made, quite fitting for halloween i think. these are double chocolate cupcakes with almond butter icing and jelly eyeballs, so although they may look disgusting i bet they are actually quite tasty!

Reader Feature ~ Jenny’s Cupcakes
aren’t these delicious looking?!
after the cupcake challenge post i got an email from jenny telling me that she and her sister had been whipping up some tasty treats over the weekend. i’m delighted to share some of her photos with you in the first of my reader cupcake series.
jenny is a fabric designer who makes the sweetest cupcake buttons i have ever seen, i’m pretty sure they’ll be going on my christmas list this year.
