Free February Desktop Calendar ~ Plus Some Link Love!

February has announced her arrival with gales and wintry showers here in Dublin. The wind has been battling against our windows for the last week, and at times it’s been so strong I worried they’d blow in! I’m still hoping for snow, but although it’s very cold outside there’s still not much sign of it. For a couple of days the Dublin mountains were tantalisingly covered in it, I could see it from the balcony, so close and yet impossible for me to reach! But winter still has quite a bit of bite in her yet, so you never know what the next month will bring.
This shot for the February desktop calendar was taken on a frost and mist laden morning in Tipperary a couple of years ago. I hope you like it!

I also have a couple of links to share with you today, some interesting things I’ve come across online lately.
- My friend Aisling Nelson has begun teaching blogging workshops to creative business owners through her new venture Three Thought Bubbles. If you’re interested in learning to blog for your business then I really recommend the workshop. I attended one last weekend and it was an excellent day spent learning and discussing all things blog related.
- Belle, who writes over at Limmster, has had the handy idea of creating a Pinterest board dedicated to Irish bloggers. If you’re interested then check out this post to learn how to pin your work to the shared board. I think it will be a fun way to check in with what everyone is writing about, as well as sharing your own work with others!
- If you’ve always wanted to write a book then this new initiative from Writing.ie might be helpful! They’ve put together a National Emerging Writer Programme which provides all kinds of resources for writing your first novel.
- This recipe for Peanut Butter Fudge from The Sophisticated Gourmet caught my eye recently. I haven’t tried it yet but when I do I’ll be sure to report back! I love the photos on their whole site, so beautifully styled and shot.
- The Dogmatic Photo Blog is a site I stumbled across a couple of weeks ago. I love the layout, it emphasises the simple nature of the photography, and the photos themselves are wonderful.

A Christmas Giveaway ~

Hey guys, I know it’s only the very beginning of December but it’s feeling pretty Christmassy here already! We put up the tree with the help of some family members yesterday, and I’m already half way through my gift shopping. For me Christmas isn’t just about the 25th of December, it’s about the whole season. I really enjoy the festive atmosphere around Dublin, searching for beautiful presents, decorating the apartment and soaking up the good feeling that this season brings. Christmas day is a special one I share with my family, but the weeks before it are equally full of fun :)
To kick off the holiday season lovely blogger Elizabeth of Rosalilium is having a week of Christmassy guest posts on her blog. To join in the celebration I’m offering a giveaway of a set of three City of Blackbirds prints that you can win! Have a read of this post to find out how to enter, you have until Friday 4th December to get your entry in!

Fairy Cakes ~ Link Love

I spent some time in the kitchen today, whipping up some chicken noodle soup, bread rolls and a batch of fairy cakes. It’s always a pleasure to spend time cooking and baking, I find it so relaxing. These buns are so easy to bake, but I always manage to make an incredible mess when making them, I’m still dusting icing sugar and flour out of my hair! Their sweet size and taste remind me of childhood, when an icing covered treat like this was something to be treasured.

It’s been a little while since I shared some link love, so here are a couple of things that caught my eye online lately:
- These bread rolls from Rosanne at Like Mam Used To Bake – I made these for the first time today, and they’re delicious.
- Wonderland Room – an Etsy shop that sells all kinds of pretty things to make your packages and presents look wonderful, good to know about as Christmas approaches.
- DIY Paper Heart Wall Hanging from Honeybee Vintage – this tutorial is a couple of months old, but I only spotted it yesterday thanks to Pinterest. I love this idea, may just spruce up my bedroom with it in the near future!
- A Handmade Christmas Tree Tutorial from Shauna Mailloux.
- I adore this cute iPad cover from Cath Kidston, it’s on my Christmas wishlist!
- Another thing on my Christmas wishlist is this book about Irish homes: Essentially Irish.
- Nutella Pie Pops from Call Me Cupcake – don’t they look divine!
- A sweet little Morning Tea Party from Tabitha Emma.
- What I’m reading at the moment: The Introvert Advantage by Marti Olsen Lany, The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman and The Highly Sensitive Person by Elaine Aron.
- Blog I fell in love with recently: Elephantine

October Sunset ~ And Some Link Love!

This stunning sunset happened outside my window about an hour ago. And judging from comments across Twitter and Facebook, people all over the country have been enjoying the dramatic light this evening too. It’s wonderful that events like this can unite and inspire people across distances; we were all looking up into the sky individually, but collectively admiring the beauty of this wild world. I love knowing that as I stood on the balcony with my camera, my Dad was out in his garden watching the very same sunset and thinking about how good life is.

Some links I’ve loved lately:

Suddenly things about my personality, my life and the challenges I’ve faced are making sense! Some of you might find this article insightful about your own lives.
- Last week Karen from Lovely Girlie Bits included City of Blackbirds in her Favourite Five list. Her kind words mean a lot to me :) This week she and Joanne are celebrating their blogoversary and are hosting LOADS of fab giveaways, call over to check them out and learn how to enter!
- Leslie has begun posting on A Creative Mint again, and I’m so glad to see her back. Her posts are always inspiring, and this Ocean Inspired post is no exception.
- A gorgeous photoshoot from Butterfly Photography, it’s got everything from flower crowns, to horses, to pretty teacups!
- This week Going Home To Roost announced a new project: The Roost Tribe.
